Press release No. 328/2017 from 10/27/2017 | german version | to the print version | search

Students and doctoral candidates at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) have repeatedly succeeded in obtaining the coveted license for a conference based on the internationally renowned TEDx format. On November 12th, speakers will shed light on this year's topic “Color Your Mind” from different perspectives and present their innovative ideas or personal experiences. Tickets for the third edition of the English-language conference in the Kiel Science Center can be purchased immediately. The event is open to all interested parties and is not aimed exclusively at students from Kiel universities.

Unlike in previous years, there is no application process for ticket allocation this year: “The tickets are sold on a“ first come, first serve ”basis,” explains Annum Malik from the organizing team. "If you still don't manage to get hold of one of the coveted tickets, you can later watch the lectures in full on the Internet, because every talk is recorded," she promises. The recordings of last year's conference have already been viewed over 7,000 times - among them are internationally known speakers such as the entrepreneur and women's rights activist Zara Huseynova, as well as speakers from Kiel and the CAU environment. The founder Marie Delaperrière reported on her striving for a world without rubbish and the student Elisabeth Panuschka on her dream of sailing at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Via TEDx, x = independently organized event
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together under the motto "ideas worth spreading" to share a TED-like experience. A TEDx event brings together recordings of TED lectures and speakers to stimulate small group discussion and relationships. These local, self-organized events are marked with TEDx, where the x stands for an independently organized TED event. The TED conference provides guidance on the TEDx program, but the individual TEDx events are self-organized (but subject to certain rules and regulations).

About TED
TED is a non-profit organization dedicated to the motto "ideas worth spreading", which are usually given in the form of short, impactful lectures (18 minutes or less) by current leading thinkers and makers. Many of these lectures, which are held at the annual TED Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, are freely available on TED.com Past TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, and Ngozi Okonjo -Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

TED's open and free ideas dissemination initiatives include TED.com, which publishes new recordings of TED lectures daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts and translations by thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed (ed.ted.com); the annual TED Prize (www.tedprize.org) honoring exceptional individuals with a "desire," an idea that inspires changing the world, TEDx (www.ted.com/tedx), through which thousands of individuals or groups licensed local, self-organized TED-like events worldwide; and the TED Fellows Program (www.ted.com/fellows), which selects thought leaders from around the world to further strengthen the influence of their extraordinary projects and activities.
